About

The textures and colours of the landscape that my studio overlooks are reflected in the work. I am sure that the environment one works in, whether it’s inner city or deep rural, subtly affects the work one does.
My workshops have been in rural locations for the last 20 years. For the first 15 years in a village and for the past 5 in a more isolated setting.
The work evolves through the process of making, with each piece influencing the next. Each piece is unique although there are thematic similarities between them.
I use only sustainable temperate hardwoods and prefer to source the timber locally whenever possible. Sycamore is an ideal timber for staining and carving, and, in tree form at least, is very common.
